Get that HGTV Moment! 3 Reasons You Need an Interior Designer

In today's world, it would be difficult not to know something about interior design in all its iterations. After all, we have Pinterest, design magazines, and an entire home and garden television network that all bombard us with fun design ideas. Getting ideas that you think would be great in your home is no problem at all. But turning those ideas into a well-appointed room is a different thing altogether. Let us show you three examples of how we work and why having an interior designer makes life easier.

1. At La Finca Interiors, we like for our clients to begin with an idea and then allow us to assist them in getting the look they want, just like on HGTV. Let's pretend you want to "jazz up" your bedroom, your favorite color is turquoise, and you love the farmhouse trend. Here's a photograph of a bedroom that might just get your creative juices flowing:

The combined textures, the white walls, the aqua-colored glass bottle bedside lamp, all make this room cozy and inviting. The aqua knit throw and the velvety aqua throw pillow scream, "Take a nap!" Taking the ideas from this photo, learning exactly what you love about it and what you don't (for example, the matching furniture set is a little uninspired) and creating a bedroom you will love is a part of the magic.

2. Or maybe you want a living room that is fresh, uncluttered, clean but still welcoming and homey. Many homeowners are just not sure how to find a style they like and then mold that style into a setting that is right for their family. We took on a similar challenge for one of our recent clients and they loved the end result:

Yes, you can have a contemporary look without sacrificing a cozy ambiance. This living room is clean and fresh, but still invites you in for relaxed conversation or play time with the kids. We often hear statements from our clients such as, "We just don't know how you did this!"

When you work with our team at La Finca, you will see that we can take the ideas you have about your decor and make them come to life. Just like those moments on Trading Spaces, when the homeowners entered their house for the first time after the gifted designer made their wishes come true, you will find our designers can use the choices you have presented concerning your interiors and make them into a reality.

3. Another reason interior designers are so helpful in turning your design dreams into reality is that they know "tricks of the trade" which many who have not studied in the field do not know. One example is "balancing" a setting. Something as simple as arranging throw pillows on a bed, or creating the right groupings of vases or candles, can make a real difference in the way a room comes across and how balanced it feels. There are even well-known "rules" that decorators use as short-hand when they are designing . . . though we think it's fun to break the rules from time to time, too.

Let us help you clarify your ideas, offer you examples and opinions, sort them out for you, and give you that HGTV moment you've always wanted. Every time we make this happen for a family, we are just as excited and happy as the homeowners themselves.

The Little Black Dresser - A Timeless Fashion Statement for Your Home

We all know that fashion can be fickle! But the little black dress has survived both time and trends. Why not try on the same timeless design concept in your home? We’d like you to slip on a few little black dressers to see how they feel.

Land of Nod

Land of Nod

We like our dressers the same way we like our dresses – simple, classic, and endlessly versatile. We believe in starting basic and building from there. This seven-drawer style from Land of Nod is a great place to start. It offers understated style on its own, but its clean lines complement almost any design aesthetic.

Not surprisingly, we’re also drawn to vintage-inspired options that add a touch of rustico to any room. We think this three-drawer option from Wayfair is perfecto! It provides an interesting focal point for an entryway without overwhelming its subdued surroundings.

Pottery Barn Kids

A suggestion for those in search of a refined vintage vibe - this dresser from Pottery Barn Kids. We think it has the ambience of a family heirloom with style that stands up today.

We simply cannot resist the country farmhouse feel of this offering from Anthropologie. It fits in perfectly with our La Finca aesthetic. The wood looks rough-hewn, and weathered. The antiqued pulls only add to its beautifully aged appearance. Its size makes it perfect for unexpected placement. We suggest trying it on as a sideboard.

Choosing accents for your little black dresser can be even more fun than accessorizing your other LBD! We adore adding surprising details, like old books and glass curiosities. Look at the way the delicate folding mirror, denim-blue rug, and vintage plant stand infuse the room with a sense of serenity. However, the dresser would also be stunning in a more vibrant setting. It all depends on how you dress it up.

The La Finca design team can’t wait to tailor an interior design especially for you. Contact us today to get started dressing up your home.

Hit the Books - Study Spaces that Earn A's

In no time, your kids will be back in school and hitting the books once again. Why not inspire their success with a super slick new place for them to study? We have some design suggestions that’ll definitely help them bring home an A.

A desk, or work surface, is essential.

Desks We Love

We give this desk from Land of Nod an A-plus! It comes in three colors, but we’re wild about the gray. Adding the optional hutch provides extra cubbies for kids to stash stuff and a built-in cork board.

No room for a traditional desk? No problem!

This is how we solved a space challenge with style. By capitalizing on the vertical space available, we gave this lucky kid a cool study area with ample storage.

This Mid-century mini-desk from West Elm is a tiny treasure for tight spaces. There’s plenty of style packed into compact design. We give it high marks for clean lines and a retro feel.

We think this natural steel desk from Room & Board is ideal for narrow spaces. It’s less than 2 feet wide. We think it deserves honors for its sleek, industrial feel.

This option will make you feel like you just aced economics! Target's Darley Writing Desk not only has lovely lines, but it includes a hidden power source. And…it’s less than a hundred bucks! We’re crushing on the vintage oak, but it’s also offered in walnut.

Don't Overlook the Importance of a Great Task Lamp

Now let’s shed a little light on the topic of desk lamps. Once again we turn to Target for design options that won’t break your back to school budget.

The Murphy Task Lamp is a great bang for your design buck at less than $30. We find the peacock-blue perfect for a kid's desk, but it also comes in black and brass.

The Audrey Collection Desk Lamp offers a bit more sophistication. It has a slick, sort of futuristic feel. It’s also a great buy at less than $40.

We had to toss in a couple of to-die-for designs for extra credit. The Cecil Task Lamp from RH Baby & Child definitely gets an A in geometry. We adore its simple elegance.

Another luxurious lighting option – this hand-polished solid brass Landau Lamp from Schoolhouse Electric & Supply Co. Super modern and sculptural, this is the sort of lamp you and your child can treasure for a lifetime.
